Fun Facts

Welcome to my fun page! During the course of my financial planning career, I have had the chance to share many joys, sorrows, and tragedies with my clients. I have been among the first to know about pregnancies, divorces, and deaths and have helped clients prepare for the great changes that these life events brought. With this in mind, I thought I would share a bit about me on this page, so here is some fun information about me.

Fun Facts

•I am the second child of four. I have three sisters and they are all better looking than me.

•Growing up my father was a school principal and my mother was part homemaker, part real estate broker and part Gypsy.

•When I was in grade 5 we lived outside of London, England for a year while my dad was on sabbatical. I went to Princess Anne’s wedding. (ok, I was part of the crowd on the street, not really invited)

•I have a tremendous fear of heights.

•My kids have a tremendous fear of going bald.

•I lived at Canadian Forces Base Lahr, Germany for grade 9-11, while my father taught grade 7 there. Over 30 years later, I still miss it.

•The greatest gift my parents gave me was their love of traveling. Four kids, two adults and all of Europe to conquer. I’ll never be able to thank them enough.

•My first date with Barb was to a Toronto Maple Leafs game. She went, so I knew she was the perfect one for me.

•I miss my grandfather. He saw potential everywhere and in every one and his death was not only a loss to his family, but to all of North Bay.

• My first son was born slightly after midnight. That night he slept in my cot in the hospital room. I have never slept better.

•My youngest son can solve the Rubik’s cube. I can not.

•When I was working as a waiter when I was in university I served Wayne Gretzky…he had a Vodka and Tonic and a bowl of French Onion Soup.

•I used to babysit Alanis Morissette (yes, THE Alanis Morissette)

6 songs I never tire of  hearing: (in no particular order)

•Like a Rolling Stone – Bob Dylan

•Jungleland – Bruce Springsteen

•Old Man – Neil Young

•Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison

•Paradise by the Dashboard Light – Meatloaf

•Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon

2 Bands that you’d think I’d like but I don’t:

•Rush – and they say Neil Young can’t sing

•Led Zeppelin – I don’t know why, I just never found the appeal

Best Rock song ever:

Jungleland – great lyric, haunting music. Close your eyes and listen to the saxophone solo. It doesn’t get any better, so don’t bother trying to argue this one.

Most Underrated Guitar Player

Mark Knopfler. I would sell my soul to play like him.
